Theme: This Land is Your Land
Garden State Watercolor Society is proud to present This Land Is Your Land, our theme for this year’s Open Juried Exhibition. Inspired by the iconic folk song, we invite artists to explore their personal interpretations of what this phrase means today. Written by Woody Guthrie in 1940, the song reflects both the beauty and hardships of the American landscape and its people.
Artists were encouraged to reflect on their own connections to America’s vast lands and it’s diverse populations. “This Land is Your Land” can be considered both a patriotic song and a song of protest. From sweeping vistas to intimate natural details, this exhibition seeks to celebrate, question and honor the land that sustains us.
Congratulations to the Artists whose paintings were accepted! 114 paintings submitted from 83 artists. 69 paintings were accepted.

JUROR - MARK OLIVER
Mark Oliver, now retired from a career in architecture, holds a passion for depicting light and its interaction with the constructed environment of cities and buildings. His facades are bathed in natural light, illuminating bold colors, graphically defined strong architectural lines and shadows. His work celebrates the quaint charm and character of everyday urban settings, such as the downtowns and streets of NJ, Brooklyn and parts of Europe. Mark paints in his home studio in Lambertville, NJ. He is a graduate of Westminster University, London, and Pratt Institute. His work has been featured in solo and group shows in the UK and USA. Mark’s paintings have also appeared in TV shows such as Billions, Ray Donovan and Gossip Girls. He was also selected in 2024, as one of the top 100 watercolor artists by Watercolor Artist Magazine.

The annual open juried exhibition is generally held once every calendar year. It is juried by a prominent water media artist for acceptance and later, that same juror will select awards in person. Our highest level award of achievement is the prestigious Dagmar Tribble Award. You may enter this show as a member or non-member. The open juried exhibition is open to watermedia artists over the age of 18 who reside in NJ, NY, PA or DE.
